Our firm’s diverse clients and accomplishments include:
California Energy Storage Alliance
Successfully advocated for enactment of AB 2514 (Skinner), which required the CPUC and governing boards of investor-owned utilities to expand deployment of energy storage technology and led to a mandate for investor-owned utilities to deploy a minimum of 1.3 GW of energy storage.
Western Power Trading Forum
Filed a motion on behalf of Western Power Trading Forum to dismiss the application of PG&E to build a proposed Tesla power plant. Results: The motion was successful — preventing the construction of a plant that was in contravention of the California Public Utilities’ Commission rules pertaining to the development of utility-owned generation.
California Alliance for Choice in Energy Solutions
Provided industry leadership in helping to form the California Alliance for Choice in Energy Solutions — a regulatory advocacy group of over 200 parties that advocate for retail competition in California. Results: Filed a successful petition on the group’s behalf at the California Public Utilities Commission that resulted in a ruling that restored the right of retail choice to California electricity consumers.
Major Can and Bottle Manufacturer
Hired by a major manufacturer of cans and bottles for assistance with obtaining energy needs for operations. Results: Successfully negotiated electricity and natural gas purchase agreements at facilities around the country.
Transwestern Pipeline Company
Provide ongoing assistance to Transwestern Pipeline Company in regulatory needs. Results: Delivering guidance and expertise in the monitoring of all California natural gas regulatory proceedings that may affect its operations in delivering natural gas to California.
Alliance for Retail Energy Markets
Represented the interests of the largest advocacy organization of electric service providers in California. Results: Assisted the organization in the successful rejection of a proposed retroactive suspension of direct access. This suspension, if passed, would have essentially eliminated the competitive retail market.
Startup Energy Services Company
Represented a startup energy services company to assist in business expansion in the international marketplace. Results: Delivered advice and counsel and negotiated agreements in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Spain.
Alliance for Retail Energy Markets, California Alliance for Choice in Energy Solutions, Direct Access Customer Coalition
As the lead advocate for parties supporting retail competition in electricity, provided effective legal representation at the California Public Utilities Commission that led to the implementation of SB 695 and SB 237 with their phased reopening of the direct access market.
